LANDFILL OPERATIONS
Landfills are designed to be a safe and environmentally responsible way to dispose of waste. When waste is taken to a landfill, it is first compacted to reduce its volume. The compacted waste is then covered with a layer of soil or other material to prevent odors and to deter pests.
Landfills are also designed with several layers of protective liners to prevent harmful substances from seeping into the ground and contaminating the soil and groundwater. The liners are made of materials such as plastic and clay and are designed to withstand the weight of the waste and the pressure of the soil.
Landfill operations also include monitoring and testing to ensure that the landfill is operating safely and that there are no environmental risks. This includes testing the groundwater for contamination and monitoring the landfill gas that is produced by the waste. Landfill gas is a mixture of gases that is produced by the breakdown of organic materials in the landfill. It can include methane, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Landfill gas is collected and treated to remove harmful pollutants before it is released into the air.
Landfills also have systems in place to control the odors that are produced by the waste. These systems may include covering the waste with a layer of material such as wood chips or using odor-neutralizing chemicals.
At our waste management facility, we take great care in managing our landfill operations to ensure the safety of the environment and the health of our community. We believe that responsible waste management is crucial for the health of our planet and future generations.
